I haven't any memory if I posted anything about the insulation/duct work project that I am involved in currently
It has become such a circus that it is beginning to seriously zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz even me.
Basically, here are the facts, and I hope your head does not bang on your keyboard as you read it.
OET, Oregon Energy Trust, came April 1st to do an audit. Oregon being PC decided that the uitlity companies could never do an objective analysis so they sent David. He inspected my house and told me I need insulation and duct work. Basically there is no insulation in the crawl space under my 2300 square foot townhome. I have only 18 in the attic spaces.....three of them. The house should have insulation in the under crawl and an R38 in the attics.....
They recommended I get three bids. I also was told to look for a Home Performance contractor; they are a cut above regular contractors in training. OET has a list online .
I have narrowed it down to three now. The range of cost is HUGE...........the highest is four times what he lowest is.
The lowest has been in the biz since 1079
OK you are saying, 'so take that one'
It IS not that easy.......and here is where the need to vent becomes necessary.
While #1 and #3 have complete bids on paper, JB has a half page.......e.g. regarding duct work,
it states:
Duct work $645
In the event of a complaint, can you imagine anyone taking me serious if I was complaining given the kind of contract I signed off on????????????? Duct work $645
That would be a big NO..........with a lot of laughter following it.
I cannot seem to get through to the contractor about this...........Today when I checked with OET they assured me JB was clear.........They verify all the contractors on their list
If that is the case, then why can't they give me a decently written contract?
I cannot believe every other person who has used their services was willing to accept a half page contract
given the amount of work it all entails.
I NEED this work as my undercrawl creates frigid conditions in the winter due to lack of any insulation
(last winter my feet were blocks of ice even though I was wearing wool lined sheepskin slippers and socks) and the attics generate heat in summer which make it very difficult to keep the den, the MB
and the kitchen adequately cooled.........despite the fact I have sufficient a/c tonnage.
If you are still awake, thanks for letting me vent.
Those who have passed out as a result of zzzzzzzzzzzzzz by now don't have to worry any longer about the issue.
