Writer's Block: A Bargain at Any Price

No matter what their budget is, everyone loves a bargain. What item or object do you love the most that cost you the least?

When I was in Coober Pedy in Southwest OZ, we went out to a site which I thought looked familiar. It turned out to be the scene
in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdom where Max steps up to a bluff and looks over at Aunty Entity's city in the distance.
I remarked to the guide it looked familiar and he said "It should. It was scene in Thunderdome"
All over the ground were beautiful black shiny pebbles, iron ore.......
I pocketed a few and brought them home along with a few pieces of iron pyrite that I picked up in Silverton,
New South Wales..........I value those and the little husks from gum trees
which they use to make the little 'Gumnut babies'.............none of it has any value, but they do for me.
:-)

Worse date EVER >:-(

Today on the opening page of LJ there was a question about worst date ever.........it was years ago but I remember
it like it was yesterday. He kept pestering me with flowers and whatever he could dream up e.g a 5 pound
box of chocolates when Valentine's Day rolled around. I kept saying NO, exactly what part of No don't you
understand?????. It was a scene from Tell Me That You Love Me (Sean Bean)
where he is stalking a woman. I discussed it with my gfs who knew Rick. Later I told them
that I would go out ONCE with him so he would stop pestering me. They said NO NO NO!!!!!
He picks me up in his brand new Corvette, telling me he
'I bought it to just impress the hell out of you'.........I have seen Corvettes. I had ridden in a few and even
drove one, at a time for a friend who was deployed..
We went to San Francisco for dinner. Rick parked his vette on the street near the cannery. And when
we got out, he set the alarm. I should have known. We ate dinner at Ben Jonson, a place that has
Elizabethean atmosphere. We sat in wing backed chairs at a table in front of a fireplace. I mean he
could not have orchestrated it better. It was like a scene out of Tom Jones. He was extremely solicitous
e.g. hanging on every word I managed to get out of my mouth, which was not many, ordering for me;
doing everything but eating my meal for me. The wait person was amused. I was not.
What time was it anyway/??
What seemed like hours finally finished and we went back to the car. He opened the door before
I could remind him about his security alarm, and all of San Francisco waterfront heard us. It was terrible.
He talked me into going next to Buena Vista for an Irish and he repeated the same alarm chime.
I gave him a warning that if it happened one more time, I would take the BART to east bay.........
When he took me home, I swore that I would never
go out again with anyone who was even remotely as solicitous as Rick.
The following day my office was ~~filled~~ with flowers. My gfs thought it was all hilarious.
